Misty Valley

Residential building, Avery Creek, North Carolina, USA

In Avery Creek, in the US state of North Carolina, a private developer is expanding his existing property with two additional buildings: a pool house and a guest house. The residence is nestled in the unique natural surroundings of North America and its construction was inspired by this in a number of ways. Against this background, working with wood from THEURL was a particularly obvious choice to make.

Surrounded by nature

The building is situated on a steep slope in the middle of densely wooded grounds. To the north, a breathtaking view opens up over a meandering stream and extensive green spaces. The challenges posed by the terrain were overcome by an architecture inspired by nature. The pool house and the guest house were designed as two independent structures that float above the landscape and the property. The guest house stands on its own, while the pool house is directly connected to the ground floor of the existing house via an open terrace. The undulating roof shape is inspired by the form of a fallen leaf.

Wood design element

The architectural concept of the new extensions was significantly characterised by the use of high-quality solid wood from THEURL. The exposed CLT ceiling and wall elements in visible quality give both buildings a warm, natural and pleasant atmosphere and create a direct connection to the surrounding landscape. The building is an example of how modern timber construction harmoniously combines function, design and nature.
