Hotel Astoria, Bad Hofgastein
Hotel construction, Salzburg
The tradition-steeped Hotel Astoria in a prime location in Bad Hofgestein has been abandoned for several years. The former splendour is now to be revived under new ownership. The new owner, a Belgian tourism group specialising in health holidays in the mountains, is not only bringing the existing building back to life with a partial general refurbishment, but is also implementing an extensive extension.
Solution approach
The timber construction companies Holzbau Egger and Holzbau Burgschwaiger worked together with TEAM THEURL to develop all the details, such as beam constructions, window details and door and window cut-outs in the CLT elements. They used 70 m3 of glulam, including for the beams, and 650 m3 of high-quality CLTPLUS, from which the walls and ceilings are made. The outer walls are 10 cm thick, while the inside is of exposed timber quality and therefore remains untreated. Different panel thicknesses (10 cm, 12 cm and 14 cm) were used for the ceilings. Some of them are also in visible quality. The partition walls (10 cm and 12 cm thick) will be partially encapsulated and visible.
Result
The roof construction with a volume of around 900 m3 required an additional 50 m3 of construction timber and glulam. An interesting detail is the pergola near the staff rooms: Here, the storey ceiling is cantilevered. Fire protection and the sound and thermal requirements of the project must be taken into account at all times during planning and execution. In order to guarantee this, these requirements and designs must be coordinated and agreed with all trades on site. The assembly and joinery plans were drawn up using the SEMA timber design program. This ensures problem-free data exchange between THEURL and the customer and at the same time enables correct data preparation for the production of the sometimes complex timber components.
