District hospital of Schwaz multi purpose building

Commercial construction, Tyrol

It took around 18 months to complete the state-of-the-art infrastructure for staff and healthcare provision for the population of the Schwaz district. The large-volume project is a prime example of sustainable hybrid timber construction and innovative, energy-efficient hospital architecture. Exposed timber areas in the interior rooms also create a cosy atmosphere on the walls and ceilings that is particularly atypical of a hospital.

Exposed wood creates a cosy atmosphere

The new building comprises two additional storeys compared to the previous building and was designed as a hybrid timber construction. While the basement and ground floor were realised in concrete and a technical floor in reinforced concrete, the planners opted for the sustainable, CO2-neutral and renewable building material wood for floors one to four. In addition to regional availability, CLTPLUS was also chosen due to its high degree of prefabrication. This meant that the construction time and noisy construction phases could be reduced to a minimum.

The ceilings and partition walls in the corridor were finished in visible quality on one side. Some shear connectors were also used in the roof area.

THEURL delivered a total of 386 CLTPLUS elements to the construction site on time and in perfect sequence, spread across ten lorry loads. This corresponds to 485 m³ of CLTPLUS, of which 185 m³ was industrial quality for the walls and 300 m³ was delivered in visible quality.
