School building in timber construction

Spruce was used for the structural components and interior panelling, larch was used for the façade cladding and the handrails of the stairs were made of ash.

The smell of fresh wood accompanies the children and teachers throughout the day and, combined with plenty of natural daylight, ensures optimum teaching conditions. A school you can touch. The showcase project was designed by the architecture firm Atelier3 in Saalfelden, while the traditional timber construction company Höck in Maishofen was responsible for the realisation.

Solution approach

As part of the project, 714 m³ of CLTPLUS components and 21 m³ or 62 glulam components of classes GL24h FI SI & IN from THEURL were used. The 374 CLTPLUS components correspond to the walls, which mainly comprise the thicknesses 100, 140 and 160 – C5 – I+I, as well as the ceiling elements in thicknesses 300 and 320 – L8.2 – 2I.

Result

As almost all of the walls were constructed in single-sided I+ quality, the challenge for the joinery was primarily the rear processing of the elements for the electrical installation. The project benefited from THEURL’s particularly sophisticated loading management.
