Music Box, Gaswerk

Commercial building, Augsburg

A new building with band and rehearsal rooms was built on the former gasworks site. These provide sufficient space for artists from a wide variety of musical genres. The music box, designed by Zimmererarchitekten, was realised together with Johannes Eck, head of the planning department at Pletschacher Projects. The building was constructed using CLTPLUS wall and ceiling elements.

More space for music

There are 52 band and music rehearsal rooms on four floors with a usable area of 2,144 m².

The top storey, on the other hand, is used as an office floor for the creative industries. A lounge and a multifunctional room are located on the ground floor. The loggia is an absolute design highlight. Spanning two storeys and in the form of a funnel-shaped loudspeaker, it serves as a stage for the Gaswerk site and is a meeting place for artists to exchange ideas and make music together.

Wood is used as a building material in a special way in this new building.

The climate-friendly 5-storey timber construction was erected in nine months thanks to the high degree of prefabrication.

Apart from the staircase, which was constructed from prefabricated concrete elements, and the floor slab, the jukebox was built from 425 cubic metres of load-bearing CLTPLUS wall and ceiling elements in industrial quality. Insulated timber frame elements were used for the exterior walls.
