Innovative learning spaces for Altenstadt primary school
School building, Feldkirch
The new Altenstadt primary school is based on modern educational standards and is a successful place of learning and living for primary school children. After almost two years of construction, the school opened its doors to around 240 pupils and 30 teachers in autumn 2023. The new building also has a lot to offer: 12 regular classes, 2 small classes with a special educational focus and clubs can also find their place here. The school and ancillary buildings with gym and club rooms were realised in timber construction.

Wood is the ideal building material for school buildings.
4 reasons explain why this is the case.
Wood can absorb and release moisture. On a hot summer’s day,
when the air in the school is humid, wood can absorb this moisture.
This creates a balanced indoor climate.
As with a jigsaw puzzle, the individual
individual prefabricated elements can be assembled on site with millimetre precision. This saves time and money.
A wooden classroom can be easily converted and extended.
Wood is a natural thermal insulation material and can keep a school building warm in winter and cool in summer.
