'Nöblinger Steg' Bridge

Bridge construction, Gailtal

A storm swept away the old Nöbliger footbridge over the River Gail in autumn 2018. The new bridge has a large span of around 38 metres and weighs approximately 25 tonnes. The truss construction consists of large-format larch glulam components, which were joined in our joinery service centre. Only the bottom chords are made of steel. The bridge rests on concreted abutments.

CLTPLUS installed on the roof

All visible parts of the bridge are made of wood. The walkway is made of larch planks.

The cantilevered roof is designed as a flat pitched roof with a 5° incline. It not only protects the users from the rain, the metal-covered, protruding roof also provides the timber construction with structural weather protection. The regional company Holzbau Pichler joined the individual elements of the structure in its own factory.

Theurl supplied the raw panels from CLTPLUS. Two different quality standards were used: The part of the roof visible from below was manufactured to Industry+ standard, while the non-visible areas under the roof cladding were manufactured to Industry standard.

The high-quality CLTPLUS, which is constructed in several cross-glued layers, can bridge large spans and is therefore the right choice for the roof structure. Prefabrication at the factory guaranteed that the roof structure could be installed quickly and the bridge was therefore protected from water ingress.
