Senior living & care home, Sulz am Neckar

Residential construction, Sulz am Neckar

In 2001, the buildings on the site of the “Wössner” furniture factory in Sulz am Neckar burnt down. In 2023, in line with Angelika Wössner’s last wishes, senior citizens and people in need of care are to move into the four new and sustainably constructed wings of the building. A wide range of care services will be provided, including 60 inpatient care places, 12 places for care-related living and 32 assisted living units.

Lots of wood for a pleasant living environment

The architects of Gesellschaft für soziales Planen GSP designed the main building using reinforced concrete and masonry construction for the basement and ground floor, while the three upper floors were built with timber construction. For the three other hybrid buildings, the planners opted for a load-bearing structure made of a reinforced concrete frame. The building envelope and the uppermost staggered storeys were again built using timber.

Terrace construction system

The newly built terrace invites you to linger on warm sunny days.

The construction site required 14 closely timed and meticulously planned construction or partial sections. THEURL was able to deliver a total of 448 components. 23 lorries transported a total of 1,137 cubic metres of timber elements to the construction site on time and smartly loaded. The CLTPLUS elements in industrial quality (2I) and single-sided visible quality (SI) were used.

As part of the comprehensive joinery service, THEURL machined a large number of drillholes and corner finishes.

The coordinated coordination of the individual elements for the respective construction phases and just-in-time delivery required a great deal of planning and also included special transport due to components with a length of more than three metres.
