New construction of the Villach kindergarten
A Timber Mini Education Lab for Little Researchers and Explorers
With its new kindergarten building that includes a mini education lab, tpv Technology Park Villach not only offers a pioneering educational programme for our youngest children, but also modern and healthy educational spaces made of wood.
A place of learning where technology, natural sciences, computer science and mathematics can be experienced through research and discovery. The design of the research facility for three to six-year-olds is quite unique and focuses on playful engagement with nature and the environment.
The three-storey educational facility was built using a sustainable timber construction. The building owners opted for CLTPLUS, THEURL’s solid wood product. The timber construction planning and assembly were carried out by Kulmer Bau from Pischelsdorf.
Over 215 CLTPLUS components form the construction for walls, ceilings and roof were installed in three different surface qualities in Visible, Industrial Plus and Industrial Quality. The CLTPLUS stairs represent a particular highlight of the project. The ready-to-install solid wood stairs were prefabricated at THEURL, in Steinfeld, on a project-specific basis and according to the customer's specifications. Two stairs with CLTPLUS stair treads and attached treads made of glued laminated timber wedges were manufactured, as well as another staircase made of CLTPLUS in double-sided Visible Quality.
Perfectly Planned from A to Z
In addition, the solid wood panels were processed in advance at THEURL with millimetre precision using various joinery services – such as front-side slots. To ensure error-free data flow for the CNC systems, detailed coordination between the timber construction, general contractor and the all-important trades is essential in the early planning phase. With the 16-person timber construction team, projects of any size can be implemented on all four common CAD programmes such as SEMA, Dietrich's, cadwork and hsbcad and developed into a work plan free of errors.
